According to the Department of Defense’s Fiscal Year 2016 Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military, 14,900 enlisted men and women who were surveyed anonymously reported being sexually assaulted in some manner (from uninvited physical contact to full on rape), compared to 20,300 in 2014.

Of the 14,900 service members who reported sexual assault, only 32 percent reported the assaults through official channels, and 58 percent of those who made official reports of assault experienced some kind of retaliation.

MuckRock is launching a project which will attempt to break assaults down by base, branch, and rank, starting with Fort Bragg. A request for all reports of sexual assaults from 2012 to 2017 is ready for release upon payment just shy of $120.

We’re opening that request to crowdfunding, so please help spread the word. If there are military bases you’d like us to look at next, please let us know at info@muckrock.com. You can contribute below, or on the request page.
