Since Jean Jimenez died on May 15, 2017, the family of Jean Jimenez has been asking two questions: (1) Why did Jean die in solitary confinement at an ICE-contracted private prison in Georgia; and (2) How can they use the answers they get to questions about Jean’s death to prevent others from suffering and dying in DHS lockups in the future.

At the core of our work, then, is a proposition about the role of truth in reducing harm. We believe strategically informed transparency work holds the capacity to end what Trullot describes as “Silencing the Past,” and undo the myths that perpetuate a deadly bordering and carceral system. We build tools and increase access to institutional knowledge for families, communities, organizers and the public. While we build, we work to deepen the connection and sharpen the political analysis of movement actors.
