To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Any and all documents that mention Second City, the improv comedy theater and school in Chicago, Toronto, and Los Angeles. Please be sure to include any documents that outline the use of improv comedy techniques within the Agency; sending Agency employees, agents, or affiliates to study at Second City; or funding, developing, or otherwise supporting Second City.

As was reported by the Chronicle of Higher Education in 2014, the CIA funded and influenced the development of American letters at the Iowa Writer's Workshop:

This suggests the CIA's influence on American culture is not limited to creation of fiction, but extends into the theater as well.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

J.M. Porup
