Why won't the fee change with the amended request?

Good afternoon Mr. Hoover,
The estimated fee doesn’t change because the revision to the timeframe doesn’t impact the estimated labor time of the email searches. The system does not have filter capability for dates. Consequently, we will be doing the same searches and then manually sorting by date.

Presumably, there will be a fewer emails to sort through since the time period is shorter which would take less time?

Mr. Hoover,
For the purposes of conducting the search, the reduced timeframe does not reduce the amount of emails to be searched in order to find responsive documents. The entire search process is manual not automated which means that all of the emails in an employee’s email account must be searched. As explained previously, the system does not filter by timeframe. Ultimately, after performing the searches using the specified search terms and manually reviewing and checking the dates of any emails identified as potentially responsive, the final result may be fewer responsive emails available for production.

The following are directions which will help you automate the search:
You will first need to connect to the exchange server with the help of their systems administration staff. Their connection parameters will vary, so their systems administration staff should refer to [1] to initially create the connection to your email service. From there, they will be able to run the following command:
Get-Mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited | Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery {sent:12/31/2022..11/22/2023 AND kind:email} -LogOnly -LogLevel Full | Select-Object Subject, Date, Time, From, To, Cc, Bcc, Attachment | Export-Csv -Path "[FilePath]\email_metadata.csv" -NoTypeInformation
This will programmatically iterate through all mailboxes across your mail system, searches for all emails within each, extracts the requested fields, then exports it to a CSV file. You will need to change [FilePath] and if necessary, the sent time range. Once that's done, please review the resulting CSV file and provide us the redacted copy once the review process is done.
As written, the provided powershell will result in a CSV with the following information, though any respective item can be removed from the command if necessary: Subject, Date, Time, From, To, Cc, Bcc, Attachment
