To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to RCW Ch. 42.56 (Public Records Act), I hereby request the following records:

Inventory of surveillance cameras installed on or above property managed by Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Phil Mocek

Please note that I have recently filed two similar requests with your agency. One was for an inventory of security cameras. This request is for an inventory of surveillance cameras. It is my understanding that Parks Department staff consider these to be two different types of cameras.

From: Hoff, Paula

Mr. Mocek-

I responded on behalf of Seattle Parks and Recreation, to your request of October 2, 2014, on October 7, 2014. In response to your later request of October 8, 2014, I responded on October 15, 2014 letting you know that I expected to have any responsive documents available on or before October 23, 2014.

Attached is the only list of security cameras that we have. I would imagine that we have additional security cameras in other buildings, but we do not have a formal inventory to date.

I am unclear what more information you are seeking in your October 19 email below? Please clarify if this is yet a 3rd request on the issues of cameras.

Sincerely,

Paula Hoff

Ms. Hoff:

I filed two requests with Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation on October 8, 2014. One ([this one][1]) was for the inventory of surveillance cameras. The [other request][2] was for the inventory of security cameras. I understand that these may seem synonymous. However, when a friend of mine called one of your facilities to inquire about a surveillance camera he observed there, he was told, "No, that's not a surveillance camera. It's a security camera." In an effort to better identify the records I seek, I requested inventories of each type of camera.

We are interacting through an automated system provided by [MuckRock][1]. Each records request submitted via MuckRock has a unique e-mail address from which related correspondence from me is addressed and to which I request that related correspondence from you be addressed. When you respond about one request in an e-mail addressed to the other, you make it very difficult to determine to which request you intended to respond. When you use the e-mail addresses provided, all correspondence is automatically associated with the corresponding request and published to the Web.

Many agencies provide a tracking number for public records requests. When that happens, the number can be associated with a request in MuckRock, and will be included in all future correspondence generated by MuckRock about that request. You have not provided any such number or other identifier for these requests.

Cordially,
Phil Mocek

Mr. Mocek-

The information that was provided yesterday is the only inventory of cameras that we have.
