This morning, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, we received your faxed request attached to inspect records relating to:

"1. Any policy, guidance, handbook, manual, or standard contract concerning the institution's interactions or relationship with members of the news media, reporters, or journalists, including student journalists.
2. Any policy, guidance, handbook, or manual concerning the interactions or communications of institutional employees, including faculty, administrators, staff, and student employees, with the news media, reporters, or journalists, including student journalists.
Please note that this request does not seek a search of faculty or student email accounts or records. These requests should in no way be construed to include a review or search of email accounts, websites, or other forms of data or document retention which are controlled by students, alumni, or faculty members, nor by governmental or advisory bodies controlled by the same, except insofar as any such individuals also serve in an administrative capacity and the records were created or are held by the individual in that capacity. Any search should be limited to documents held by the administration and/or its staff members, including records created or maintained by persons acting in the capacity of administrators or staff members."

We will need additional time to respond to your request. We will respond further on or before June 15, 2023.

Pursuant to The Inspection of Public Records Act, a records custodian may charge reasonable fees for copying public records. New Mexico State University will provide the first 20 pages at no charge and charges $0.25 per printed page thereafter. Payment in advance may be required. If documents are requested electronically, a fee will be assessed for the actual cost of downloading, copying and/or transmitting of records including personnel time involved.

There is nothing in NMSU's ARP or the RPM that mentions interactions with the media. Additionally, the Marketing and Communications Office does not have a manual, handbook or "standard contract" that covers this topic. We are attaching a memo that former Chancellor, Dan Arvizu sent on June 14, 2018, that talks about interactions with the media. We are continuing to search for additional records and will need additional time to respond to your request. We will respond further on or before June 30, 2023.

Pursuant to The Inspection of Public Records Act, a records custodian may charge reasonable fees for copying public records.
