Pursuant to the Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Copies of all citizen complaints, internal investigations, grievances, discipline, appeals of discipline, uses of force, and reviews of uses of force involving former JPDs officer Jared DeAngelis and Vanessa Wilcox over the course of their careers.

The records requested are public pursuant to the Rhode Island Supreme Court opinions in Direct Action for Rights and Equality v. Gannon, 713 A.2d 218 (R.I. 1998) and Rake v. Gorodetsky, 452 A.2d 1144 (R.I. 1982).

This request is brought by Big Local News along with a collaboration of news organizations, including ABC News, KQED, MuckRock, the Invisible Institute, and other news organizations. Big Local News is a program of Stanford University’s Journalism and Democracy Initiative and helps journalists collect, process and analyze public data.

We are seeking this information as a news media organization on a matter of public interest concerning the conduct of government. As such, we ask for a waiver of all fees pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws § 38-2-4(e).
