Below are some responses to your FOIA as well as we need
further clarifications on a few things to be able to full assist you:

The following materials regarding the imposition, assessment, collection
and balances of inmate fees and debt:

All current policies and procedures regarding medical and room & board
costs or fees for which inmates are or may become liable. Please include
all policies and procedures related to how fees are set, accrued, imposed,
collected, and enforced (such as those related to per diem fees, ability to
pay determinations, penalties for late or non-payment, authorization for
civil or criminal action for payment enforcement, etc). *Policies in
regard to medical services and fees can be found on our website,
doc.iowa.gov <http://doc.iowa.gov>. That will save on cost for you. I
will tell you that offenders are charged a $3 fee for sick calls to
medical, it is further explained in the policies. We do not charge an
outright fee for room and board for incarcerated offenders, fees are tacked
onto canteen purchases that offender's can make for things like deodorant,
coffee, personal tv's, etc. That canteen policies can also be found on the
website. *

*Debts and restitutions as a result of sentencing are ordered by the
courts and are not imposed by our Department. Our Department does impose a
$300 supervision fee for those ordered to field supervision. If you'd like
a count of individuals admitted to field supervision annually, you can

Good morning,

The check for your FOIA request from back in December came today. Attached
is the requested data.

*I do apologize below is info from the report ran by our nursing director:*

"July1 2020 to June 30 2021. Our medical copay report counts the number of
times a copay is charged. This doesn't necessarily reflect how many
offenders were charged as the request states.
Offenders were charged 12,808 times during this time period. Some of these
charges could have been refunded. I do not have access to the refunds. Our
standard medical copay cost is $3.00. The State of Iowa received $38,424.00
in copay fees."
