Hello,

I would like to follow up on this open records request, filed on October 13, 2015. The statute does require a response to my request to be given within 3 business days. It is currently 10:15 am on October 21, 2015, and I have received no response to my request as of this writing.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request as the statute requires.

sincerely,

Christopher,
We received your CORA request. I've attached City Council's open records policy which outlines our fees for professional staff time and copies involved in the document search. Can you please clarify that your request pertains to all 13 Council members' records? What about their staff/aides? If so, the number of individuals and the large number of your search terms could potentially result in a lengthy search which means time and costs. I imagine it would take each member of each office at least an hour to complete the search, which would cost between $325 to $900. If you could narrow the search and let me know what exactly you are looking for, I can save time and reduce the estimated costs. Please let me know how you'd like me to proceed.

Thanks, Janna

Janna,

Let's see if we can find a way to narrow this request that works for both of us. Basically what I am seeking is commuication between city council members (not including staff & aides) and representatives of police unions. My focus here is the response of police union officials to Councilman Lopez's motion to strengthen the independent monitor (a city council meeting about this took place in February 2015). I am also interested in any communications from police union members about protest events which took place in early February leading up to the council meeting about the office of the independent monitor.

Can you please give me a fee estimate for this request if it is understood to include only the communications of council members (not aides & staff) and depending on whether that figure is still prohibitively expensive for a working class person like me, we can whittle it down from there?

thank you.

Sincerely,
Christopher Schiano

Janna,

Still waiting on a revised estimate of fees, based on the modification of my request as discussed. I have not heard anything from you about this request since October 27, nearly three weeks ago. I look forward to this request being processed.

thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Christopher Schiano

Mr. Schiano,
David Broadwell forwarded your follow up communications to me today. For some reason, I never received your messages. I’m not sure what IT issue I’m having that prevents you from emailing me but your messages go through to Mr. Broadwell. I am aware of Council offices not receiving email from addresses that are outside of the city so maybe the same thing is happening to me. I apologize for the delay to your requests. Let me give you my phone number in case this happens again so you can still get a hold of me. That number is 720-337-2001.

I appreciate you narrowing your request for me. It helps to know the records you are seeking. The issue you mention really only pertains to 6 of our Council members. As you may know in July, 7 new Council members joined our body after the May/June elections. These 7 members were not in Council when CM Lopez’s legislation went through. We don’t maintain email records for the outgoing Council members so I can only do a search of the records of those 6 members who were here when all this occurred and who are still with us. So, I anticipate at most a cost of $150. Most likely it will be a lot less. Does this work for you? If so, I’ll ask those 6 members to search their records and get you a response this week.

Thanks for your patience with us.

Janna
