From: Matthew Guariglia

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act ("FOIA"), I hereby request the following records:

Any complaints received by email or recorded over the involvement of police in University of Connecticut's Spring Weekend at its Storrs Campus April 24-27, 2014.

I also request that, if possible and pursuant to Conn. Gen. Stat. § 1-212(d), fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest and not made for commercial gain. The requested documents will be processed by a representative of the news media/press and made available to the public at MuckRock.com.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 4 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Matthew Guariglia

Dear Matthew Guariglia,

A search was sent to our Professional Standards Bureau in order to fulfill your request. At this time, nothing has been returned to the Legal Affairs Unit. I will contact you as soon as I receive a response and whether materials exist that are related to your request, so that you have a better idea of a timeline as to its completion of review.

Dear Matthew Guariglia,

As of this date no response has been returned from our Professional Standards Bureau and I will check on the status of the request. I know we have sent numerous requests to their division recently on top of their normal duties, so this may be contributing to the delay.

Best Wishes,

Dear Matthew Guariglia,

I sent the Bureau of Professional Standards an email stating that you were willing to clarify your request if this would assist in expediting it. I have not received any materials to date, so I cannot give an accurate response as to how much longer it will take. Once I hear back from them, I will send you an email as to their findings.

Dear Matthew Guariglia,
In speaking with the Professional Standards Bureau, they wanted me to reiterate that they can only search for complaints/investigations into matters related to our personnel (Troopers, Dispatchers, Constables, etc). If you are looking for complaints related specifically to the UCONN Police Department personnel, then you would need to contact their agency if you have not already done so. Attached is the UCONN Police Department’s Commendation and Complaint Procedures for reference and below is a link to contact information for people within their department for assistance. I hope this information helps and I was informed that your request is currently being researched.

Dear Matthew Guariglia,

I have not received any materials to date, so I cannot give an accurate response as to how much longer it will take. Once I hear back from them, I will notify you as to their findings. Again, any materials that may exist within the Professional Standards Bureau would NOT include the UCONN Police Department personnel and a separate request to their agency would be needed.
