The agency director rejected my request under a provision of FOIA which does not apply. South Carolina has no appeal provision in their FOIA law. Short of getting a lawyer and filing a suit, is there anything I can do to further a request?

Hello! Appeals don’t necessarily need to be that formal of a process - you can address that concern in the request communications, and it’s not unheard of that an agency will back down. Beyond that, unfortunately, your only recourse is a suit - I recommend contacting your local ACLU or http://www.foiadvocates.com/ Best, J.Pat
