From: Todd Hendricks

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

I request historical data in care of the DOJ's role in enforcing Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act from Congressional renewal in 1982 through the Shelby decision in 2013. The data would closely conform, to the extent possible, with the data that was provided to the research scholars (https://www.law.berkeley.edu/files/ch_3_fraga_ocampo_3-9-07.pdf) (see page 7), including the year, jurisdiction and changes required of the jurisdiction following request for more information (MIR). As I understand it, the data were provided from the Submission Tracking and Processing System (STAPS). I would also like the "Submission Listing Report: Followup and Study Report for the Action Ask". This was also referred to in the document.

This is likely to be a lot of data. In the event you need to reach me to discuss a feasible means of transfer please let me know.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Todd Hendricks

Dear Mr. Hendricks:

This is in further response to your below July 13, 2021, Freedom of Information Act request. As I'm sure you are aware, the Civil Rights Division receives hundreds of FOIA requests, some seeking as many as 250,000 pages of records that must be carefully reviewed. We have found, after the passage of a significant amount of time, that some requesters are no longer interested in receiving the records. If you would still like to receive information pertaining to your request, please contact this office to indicate your continued interest.
