Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Any written or electronic communications, including email attachments, sent or received by David Vela concerning the deployment of the Park Police to Lafayette Square during any protests or unrest that occurred in Washington D.C. between May 26, 2020 and the date this request is processed. This request also specifically seeks any records or communications concerning the Park Police's decision to clear Lafayette Square of protesters on the late afternoon and evening of June 1, 2020.

I am a reporter for the Guardian and other outlets.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Thanks for the note. That would work well, though if possible I'd like to add a couple other search terms, including: "Floyd", "protest", "protests", "riot", "Black Lives Matter", "BLM", "tear gas" and/or "pepper spray".

Just for the record, I am NOT seeking generic news clippings or things of that sort.

Thank you for the response. Regarding the search term BLM, I am proposing that we treat as non-responsive any results where that acronym is used to refer to the Bureau of Land Management and the records have no relationship to Black Lives Matter or events at Lafayette Square. Please let me know if this is acceptable to you.
