I am from the Department of State/Bureau of Administration/ Office of Information Programs and Services (A/GIS/IPS). I am contacting you regarding your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request of 2 April 2019 which we received on 9 April 2019 with the tracking number F-2019-05057.

It would be helpful if we had more clarity about your requests for records concerning New Presidential Permit Requirements. We need a specific timeframe with a beginning and end date to search our records. Normally, the timeframe for a request is less than two years, usually a couple of months. Please be aware that each record we provide has to be reviewed and cleared by an American staff member with Top Secret Clearance. If the record is from another agency or mentions another agency, that agency must go through the same process also. Therefore, the more specific the request, the fewer records that have to be reviewed and the sooner and more accurately we can respond to you.

Specifying a narrow timeframe will help us fulfill your request thoroughly and expeditiously. If you'd like, we can make an appointment to speak on the phone about your request.

Thank you,

Joseph De Maria
