Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Subject: Freedom of Information Act Request

Dear Freedom of Information Officer,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), [5 U.S.C. § 552] regarding inmates currently held in solitary confinement within the state of New York or in federal correctional facilities.

Please provide the following information for each inmate:

1. The total number of inmates held in solitary confinement.
2. The name of the facility where each inmate is held.
3. The duration for which each inmate has been in solitary confinement.
4. The reasons provided for placing each inmate in solitary confinement.

If some of this information is available in an aggregated or anonymized format, I would accept that format to protect privacy and security while still providing oversight of the use of solitary confinement.

I am willing to pay fees for this request up to a maximum of $1000. Please inform me if the estimated fees will exceed this limit before processing my request.

Additionally, I request a waiver of all fees for this request. Disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest because it provides significant insight into governmental operations and activities specifically related to the treatment of inmates in the state of New York and federal correctional facilities. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.

I look forward to your response within the statutory 20 working day period as outlined in the FOIA.
