From: King County Medical Examiner's Office

Hello Kyra,

I am in receipt of your public records request and would like to clarify if you are interested in COVID related MEO records or all MEO medical records within the stated time frame. Once you have clarified this portion of your request we can begin preparing the responsive records for release.

Thank you,

From: King County Medical Examiner's Office

Hello Kyra,

Attached is a spreadsheet containing the information you have requested. The King County MEO has limited jurisdiction and if you would like a wider range of responsive records for this request contact the Center for Health Statistics. We do not disclose name, address of incident, and decedent address out of respect for the decedent and families. All demographic information is preliminary. The role of this office is to determine cause and manner of death, and we do not do a lot of research into demographics-that is done by funeral homes when they do the death certificate. We have some limited information on occupation, but it's rarely included. We don't have information about whether something happened at work. We now consider this request to be closed.

The KCMEO is obligated to provide this information under Washington state law, but we ask you to exercise extreme caution in how you use it. These families have not volunteered to make this information public. Publicizing the identities of families' deceased loved ones may compound their loss and suffering, and there may be additional ramifications to families by connecting them to a COVID-19 death. Please keep the interests of these families paramount in your considerations.

Thank you,
Charlotte Nickles (she/her)
