Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
In November of 2021 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) conduct a survey called The Public Perceptions of Artificial Intelligence ( OMB Control No. 1640-NEW ). According to a filing with OMB, the survey asked the public about their perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, such as face recognition.
According to OMB, the agency expected 3,000 responses. I am requesting a copy of the survey as well as every response to this survey, preferably in a spreadsheet format.
BACKGROUND
According to the agency the "quantitative information being sought in this project will be extracted from the results of a survey answered by a representative sample of the general public". According to the agency, the contractor for this study, the DHS Federally Funded Research and Development Center, Homeland Security Operational Analysis Center (HSOAC), would assist with the data collection. HSOAC was to use a national sample from the RAND American Life Panel (ALP) that is representative of the United States 18+ population based on gender, age, region, and ethnicity. According to a filing with OMB, the survey asked the public about their perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, such as face recognition. All information collected will be on a voluntary basis. DHS will not receive any personally identifying information.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
