To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

A copy of the NSA investigation of the attack on the USS Liberty including the evidence and testimony that support the findings of that investigation.

I am a survivor of the June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty and serve as President of the USS Liberty Veterans Association. In that role I request that fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Joe Meadors

Editor's note: Administrative appeal sent by mail.

From: NSA/CSS FOIA Officer. POC

Good Afternoon Mr. Meadors,

I wanted to attempt to touch base with you again regarding the letter (dated 11 April 2013) you sent to the NSA/CSS for administrative appeal of your FOIA request submitted in Dec 2012. I am currently reviewing the previous FOIA Cases and declassification cases that led to NSA’s release of a large amount of documents and tapes on our website. Currently I am still validating each case in order to determine if any information was withheld in its entirety in accordance with any of the FOIA exemptions. Thus far it appears that the NSA/CSS has reviewed and released, in entirety or redacted form, all records in the NSA/CSS Archival Holding Area indexed to the USS Liberty Incident of 1967. Once I have completed my assessment, I will check back with you to determine if you wish to proceed with your appeal.

Your patience is much appreciated!
