Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
Any written or electronic communications, including email attachments, sent or received by Robert MacLean, chief of the Office of Law Enforcement and Security, concerning the deployment of the Park Police to Lafayette Square during any protests or unrest that occurred in Washington D.C. between May 26, 2020 and the date this request is processed. This request also specifically seeks any records or communications concerning the Park Police's decision to clear Lafayette Square of protesters using pepper spray and other non-lethal munitions on the late afternoon and evening of June 1, 2020. This latter incident was widely covered in the press, and it has been asserted that the dispersal of protesters was undertaken in order to provide President Trump with an opportunity for a photo op.
I am a reporter for the Guardian and other outlets.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
