Crowdfund Request: ID.me Documents and Data (Social Security Administration)

Share Embed Help

This crowdfunding campaign is to cover the cost of filing a freedom of information act with the Social Security Administration (“SSA”) for documents and artifacts associated with their contract with the private identity proofing provider ID.me. The goal of requesting these documents is to understand why the SSA engaged ID.me as their identity provider when a federal government provided alternative (“Login.gov” via the General Services Administration [“GSA”]) existed.

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

1) All contracts between the agency and ID.me for identity verification identity proofing services.

2) All training material provided by ID.me to the agency regarding its identity verification and identity proofing services. This should include user manuals, webinars, slide presentations, and where possible, a schedule of the training sessions offered by ID.me since Jan. 1, 2019.

3) Data reflecting the number of agency website users with ID.me as the identity provider, broken down by year.

4) All working group meeting minutes or notes related to the agency's relationship with ID.me.

5) All “show cause” or “cure” notices related to the agency's contract with ID.me.

I ask that all fees be waived as I am a journalist and intend to use the requested records to publish articles in the public interest. In the event you choose to impose fees, I request a detailed breakdown of the fees, including the hourly wage of each employee involved and an explanation justifying the employee hours required to fulfill the request.

Should you choose to reject this request or redact portions of it, I ask that you provide a detailed breakdown of the statutory exemptions and associated case law underlying your decision to withhold each/any portions from public review.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brandon Galbraith
