This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
A copy of FBI files on Elliott Forry Laucks, a chess grandmaster, born 1898, son of S. Forry Laucks of York Safe and Lock. He owned a home at 30 Collamore Terrace, West Orange, NJ where he founded the Log Cabin Chess Club (1934-1960). In February 1956, he hosted a US contingent in a chess tournament in Cuba which included future World Champion Bobby Fischer, his mother Regina Fischer, and Norman Tweed Whitaker. Lauck’s death from cardiac arrest while playing in a chess tournament July 31, 1965 during the US Open Chess Championship in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico was widely reported in the chess world.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
