To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

A copy of FBI files on Norman Tweed Whitaker (April 9, 1890 – May 20, 1975) whose death was widely reported. Norman Tweed Whitaker was convicted of several crimes, was disbarred from the practice of law, and served several terms in prison. Whitaker was arrested in November 1921 for violating the Dyer Act for transporting stolen automobiles across State lines and imprisoned in Leavenworth. His most infamous criminal act was to defraud a third party with false claims as to the whereabouts of the kidnapped Lindbergh baby. He was sentenced to Alcatraz for this. He was also imprisoned in 1950 for child molestation. In 1956 he traveled to Cuba with future world chess champion Bobby Fischer and his mother Regina Fischer, both of whom were under FBI surveillance at the time. He was a chess grandmaster and author of many chess books and was known around the world.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

James Katz
