To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All documents mentioning or pertaining to Edgar Herbert Smith (February 8, 1934 - March 20, 2017). Proof of death is not required as his recent passing was documented in the Washington Post and in the New Jersey media.

Here is a link to an article about his death: http://www.nj.com/bergen/index.ssf/2017/09/brutal_killer_of_nj_cheerleader_in_1957_dies_in_pr.html

Mr. Smith was profiled on the television program "Firing Line" in 1971: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoAinL2XY0E

Please conduct a search of the Central Records and Electronic Surveillance (ELSUR) indices, as well as cross-reference documents. Please check for any relevant documents that may be held by the Newark or San Diego field offices.

I am especially interested in any files that may mention the "Firing Line" episode in 1971, or an article entitled, "The Approaching End of Edgar H. Smith, Jr." that appeared in a 1965 edition of Esquire magazine.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
