This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
Files related to the disappearance of Amy Billig (DOB: 01/09/1957). Amy Billig disappeared from Coconut Grove in Florida in March of 1974.
I recently read a true crime novel about this case, which detailed several instances where FBI field offices were involved in the investigation:

Per my understanding of the FBI and their interpretation of the FOIA process, I am also requesting that the search include "cross referenced" records, not just main file records for Amy Billig.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Dear Mr. David Hardy-
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read this follow up message. This message is in regards to FOIPA Request Number: 1365036-000. The Subject of this request is a missing woman named: Billig, Amy.
I would look like to ask for a Public Interest Disclosure in regards to this case. Both Amy's mother and father have long since passed away. Amy's father passed away in the early 1990s, while her mother died in 2005. Ms. Billig was presumed by her parents to have died decades ago. Amy's mother co-authored a book and appeared on national television in an attempt to generate additional leads and information regarding the case.
I believe that the public interest sought by the release of these documents is a significant one - the possibility of additional news stories from the release of these records will likely generate renewed interested in the case along with the possibility of more tips. The unique circumstances of the case - including a botched extortion attempt, the possible involvement of several chapters of the Pagan motorcycle gang, and the harassment of the family by an employee of federal government - all provide evidence that FBI files about this case exist. The release of these documents would provide an interesting historical insight into a number of different areas and there is a compelling public interest in their release.
I ask that these documents are considered for release for reasons of Public Interest Disclosure. Thank you for your commitment to open and transparent government, and I look forward to your response, whatever it might be.

Estimated Dates of Completion
Requests are processed in the order in which they are received through our multi-track processing system, and the FBI receives a voluminous amount of requests on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Requests are divided into two primary tracks--simple (under 50 pages of potentially responsive documents) and complex (over 50 pages of potentially responsive documents). Our complex requests are further divided into medium, large, and extra-large sub-tracks. Simple track requests typically require the least amount of time to process.
Currently, simple track cases average approximately 181 days from the date of receipt for processing. Requests in the medium processing track are currently averaging 232 days from the date of receipt for processing, those in the large processing track are currently averaging approximately 659 days, and those in the extra-large track are averaging 998 days.
