From: U.S. Trade Representative

Mr. Kaplan,

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) received your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated March 15, 2018 and assigned it tracking number FY18-105. Please cite this number in any future communications with our office regarding your request.

Ambassador Lighthizer was the only "agency political appointee confirmed by the Senate from January 20, 2017" to March 12, 2018. His travel records were the subject of four prior FOIA requests, therefore, his travel is publicly documented in the USTR FOIA Library<https://ustr.gov/about-us/reading-room/freedom-information-act-foia/electronic-reading-room/frequently-requested-reco> through September 27, 2017.

We will process your request for records documenting travel for Ambassador Lighthizer from September 28, 2017 through March 19, 2018. Deputies O'Shea, and Doud, Mahoney, and Gerrish were sworn in on March 12, 13, and 19, 2018, respectively.

Our office will provide you with a determination on or before April 11, 2018.

Thank you,
Monique

From: U.S. Trade Representative

Mr. Kaplan,

This email is the final response of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) No. FY18-105 submitted on March 15, 2018 requesting "all communications and documents in your possession, of any type whatsoever, regarding the travel expenditures of all agency political appointees confirmed by the Senate from January 20, 2017 to the present."

Per our email dated March 19,2018, Ambassador Lighthizer was the only agency political appointee confirmed by the Senate from January 20, 2017 to March 12, 2018. Deputies O'Shea and Doud, and Mahoney were sworn in on March 12 and 13, 2018, respectively, and did not travel between the date of their appointment and March 15, 2018, the date of your FOIA request.

Attached please find 17 pages that document Ambassador Lighthizer's travel-related expenditures from the date of his appointment through March 15, 2018. We are releasing the records to you in their entirety.

If you need any further assistance or would like to discuss any aspect of your request, please contact me or my colleague Melissa Keppel by email at FOIA@ustr.eop.gov or 202-395-3419.
