To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
I am looking for any documents relating to surveillance or investigations into the making of the film "Shoot it", also called "Shoot it Black, Shoot it Blue". This film was shot around 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri and was released in 1974. It is based on a novel by Paul Tyner. The film is the story of a white police officer who shoots a black mugger. In the film, the shooting was filmed by a young black documentary filmmaker, who then begins to harass the police officer, which leads to the officer's murder by a black militant. I believe that the film may have been suppressed or pressure may have been put on the film's distributor to prevent its release.
I am also interested in any police or FBI materials related to the feature film "End of the Road" (1971) that was co-written by Dennis McGuire, Aram Avakian and Terry Southern.
Both of these films were made during the hight of the counterculture and the Cointel program, and I would like to know what attention was given to them by government agencies.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Daniel Dunnock mcGuire
