To Whom It May Concern:

I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on February 10, 2016. You had assigned it case number FOIA 16-0132.

You asked me to "reasonably describe" the records sought. CENTCOM carried out investigations of 10 strikes in Syria and Iraq which are "alleged to have resulted in civilian casualties and determined to be credible." This is according to a Washington Post article dated January 26, 2016, which can be found here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2016/01/26/u-s-military-changes-how-it-discloses-civilian-casualties-in-iraq-and-syria/.

The article links to CENTCOM's release of general information on each strike, published in CENTCOM news releases on January 15, 2016 (http://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/features/2014/0814_iraq/docs/20160115_02_CENTCOM_New_Release-Results_of_Iraq_and_Syria_Civilian_Casualty_Assessments.pdf) and January 22, 2016 (http://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/features/2014/0814_iraq/docs/20160122_04_CENTCOM_News_Release-Results_of_Iraq_and_Syria_Civilian_Casualty_Assessments.pdf).

My request refers to documents associated with civilian casualty assessments for each of the 10 strikes covered in the CENTCOM investigations. They are all referred to in the aforementioned news releases.

I hereby grant prior authorization for fees up to $25. If the cost exceeds this amount, please notify me beforehand so I can consider paying the additional fees.

Thank you,

Waqas Mirza.
