USMS FOIA ADMIN

From: K. Braddock

I would like to submit a fee waiver request on the grounds of significant public interest.

When the TrueCrypt project was shuttered unexpectedly in 2014 there were concerns on the part of security experts that this was a move to pre-empt a demand by intelligence services in the US to install backdoors into the encryption software to allow law enforcement to decrypt data that had been secured from subjects of a criminal investigation.

Given that, to date, there have been no updates or further information about why the project went offline there has been no way to address the myriad of rumors flying on the subject and has subsequently helped to undermine trust in similar software.

This disclosure could help clear up an otherwise murky field of investigation and help shed light into an area that is critical for maintain trust in institutions that utilize this and similar types of software and as such is of vital public interest.
