Dear Mr. Barr:

This letter is in reference to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated and received on June 7, 2018. You asked for copies of all emails between employees of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and employees of Fox News (employees possessing email addresses that end in @foxnews.com).

Please be advised that HUD will comply with your request to the extent permissible by law. Any records not subject to an exemption will be forwarded to you promptly upon completion of the Department's search and review process. However, your request is too broad and vague to be processed. Asking for all emails between employees of doesn't provide a narrow enough scope. The Department performs electronic searches by custodial names, employees over 8,000 employees, and you haven't provided any HUD employee names in which to utilize for a search. HUD will need a more specific request in order to conduct a search.

Please clarify your request within 15 business days from the date of this letter. If I do not hear from you within that time, your request will be withdrawn. Please be advised that such an action will not preclude you from filing other requests in the future. If you wish to clarify your request, please email your clarification to eugene.a.mcgirt@hud.gov<mailto:eugene.a.mcgirt@hud.gov> or submit it to the following address:

Hello,

I am requesting all emails between employees of this executive agency and employees of Fox News (employees possessing email addresses that end in @foxnews.com) from the period starting on January 20, 2017 until the present day. The emails must contain the word "Carson," meaning that they relate to interview requests and scheduled interviews with the secretary.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Barr

From: Department of Housing and Urban Development

Hello,

I can submit an electronic request for Secretary Carson's emails that relate to interview requests and scheduled interviews with the secretary from January 20, 2017, until the present day.

From: Jeremy Barr

Sure, that would be fine. I would also like a search of all email communications between Raffi Williams and employees of Fox News (email accounts ending in @foxnews.com) for the same time period, and all email communications between Jacie Coressel and employees of Fox News (email accounts ending in @foxnews.com) for the same time period.

From: Department of Housing and Urban Development

All muckrock requests are waiting in the queue to reach the front of the line for the contractor to apply the submitted keywords.

I will receive a notification when the contractor starts working on the keyword request and then a final notification when the data is ready.

When they have reached that point I will send you notification with an estimated date when the data will be ready for me to review.

From: Jeremy Barr

Hello,

Can you provide an estimated completion date for this request? Would my request be expedited if I limit the scope of the request in some way?

Thank you.

Jeremy Barr

From: Department of Housing and Urban Development

Possibly.

In what manner would you like to limit the scope?
