To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Reports describing the frequency which tech and communications companies notify the child exploitation tip line that led to the following statistic:

On October 4, Stacie B Harris, Associate Deputy Attorney General & National Coordinator for Child Exploitation & Human Trafficking, mentioned during a public DOJ summit on encryption that 90% of tips to the child exploitation tipline by tech companies come from Facebook. I'm looking for documentation to verify the statistic in that public forum.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Joseph Uchill

Joseph Uchill:

Good evening, this is in response to your inquiry below. Unfortunately, the backlog queue for eDiscovery searches is extensive and the search for this request remains ongoing. This Office is searching twenty-four custodians of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General and I am estimating an additional two to three months for the search to be completed. This search estimation is not based on any issue with your FOIA request, but the backlog queue for ediscovery searches, which consists of FOIA requests that were received ahead of your FOIA request and are being searched, as well as the number of custodians being searched. Since the number of Department custodians subject to the records search is a factor in how long a records search takes to be completed, you may decide to narrow the parameters of the records search, such as limiting the custodians to search to Office leadership . Please be advised, you are not required to do so, I am only providing you an option that might help facilitate the search. Should the search be completed sooner; you will be advised. Once the search is completed, we can provide an estimated date of completion for processing this request.

If you are no longer interested in emails related to the topic of your request, it would significantly facilitate our ability to provide a response as we could limit our search to the Department Executive Secretariat, which maintains official correspondence on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General.

I understand your desire to have the processing of this FOIA request completed and receive this Office’s response; however, please be assured that we are working on your FOIA request. I thank you for your continued patience and communication with this Office as we work towards completing our processing of your FOIA request. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reach out to this Office.

Thank you,

Valeree Villanueva

Joseph Uchill:

Good afternoon, in response to your inquiry below regarding DOJ-2020-000494. In my September 29, 2023 email to you, I estimated this Office needed an additional two to three months to complete the search, as since are still within that time frame, I would recommend you contact this Office next month to check on the status, as the search remains pending. In your most recent inquiry below, you are seeking “when you can expect to receive a response,” since the search is ongoing I can only estimate a response in five to six months. Furthermore, this Office will work to provide interim responses in this matter, when able to do so. I understand the passage in time since this request was submitted and appreciate your continued patience and communication with this Office as we work towards completing our processing of your FOIA request. Should you have additional questions or concerns regarding this request, please feel free to contact this Office.
Thank you,
