I am requesting historic data on the number of SWAT raids that have been conducted in Tacoma -- organized by year and including the cause for the raid -- going back as many years as data is available.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

In response to your follow up email regarding “records stretching back to the year 2000 to preferably earlier,” there are no records. Responsive record to your request for “historic data on the number of SWAT raids that have been conducted in Tacoma, organized by year and including the cause for the raid, going back as many years as data is available,” date back to 2009, which were provided in the City’s response on June 16, 2015. Therefore, your request 15-9051 remains closed.

Mr. Atkins:

Tacoma Police Department began tracking the number of SWAT raids in 2009. There are no records prior to 2009. If you are interested in a copy of the retention schedule, the City of Tacoma’s Police Department follows the minimum Washington State retention schedule, which can be found on the Secretary of State website.
