Your original inquiry was received on April 7, 2017. On April 13, 2017, you were informed the Santa Clara Police Department was still in the process of conducting the requested records search and a 14-day extension was requested, with an anticipated completion date May 1, 2017.

The Department will provide you with an update on or before May 2. In the meantime, we are continuing to work on your request.

Hello – we are in receipt of your request for information pertaining to “Babel Street”. Please know our agency has completed a thorough search in response to your request and has found numerous items that may or may not be applicable to your response. Upon evaluating the items discovered we estimate it will take us a few more weeks to go through all items to find responsive documents. We anticipate June 1 as a reasonable date in which to conclude our search.

-Any contractual documents with the company Babel Street. This includes contracts, purchase orders, trial run agreements, delivery orders, grants, procurement documents with Babel Street.

-Any department emails to email addresses with the domain @BabelStreet. The departments within SCPD most likely to have communicated with Babel Street are the Investigations Division, chief of police, the Intelligence wing of the Special Operations Division, the Homeland Security Division, and any other units working with technology or procurement. Keywords should include "Babel," "Babel Street," "Babel X," and "Babel Sentry."

-Any marketing material obtained from Babel Street.

-Any reports on the efficacy of Babel Street.

-The number of investigations Babel Street has been used on. This is not a request for documentation on each investigation, simply the number.

-Any reports or other documentation on its use on the week of Super Bowl 50 February 1st 21016 to February 7th 2016.

-The total date range for this request is 1/1/15 to the date this request is processed.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
