From: Sughrue, Jim

Dear Mr. Szuberla:

Your request was forwarded to me, and it my pleasure to respond. The Raleigh Police Department has not purchased, acquired, installed, subscribed to, made payment for, or entered agreements concerning software designed to access information from social media services. Since that is the case, the department does not have any policies or training materials pertaining to such software.

While it is not possible to provide information about the products we do not have, I'll gladly be of further assistance in any way I'm able to do so.

Sincerely,

Jim Sughrue

Hi Jim, Thanks for the speedy reply! Could you check records again in reference to request 3? Documents turned over by the Winston-Salem Police Department include emails from a Media Sonar rep named David Smitherman. In his correspondence, and seemingly as part of his sales pitch, Smitherman mentions having met with a Raleigh Police Police Department chief; assistant chief; CID lieutenant and IT director to discuss his company's social media intelligence software. I have to think that meeting generated a few documents. Thanks in advance, relevant section of our public records request reprinted below.

"3. All records regarding correspondence about or with a company that offers software designed to access information from social media services, including but not limited to all correspondence about or with the companies Brightplaent, Geofeedia, Intrado Inc, LifeRaft, Magnet Forensics, Media Sonar, Signal Corporation, and ZeroFOX;"

I’ll check on that aspect. Please be advised that I’ll be out of the office for the next week but will try to have research take place in my absence.

Hi Jim, Wanted to touch base again about this portion of the request:

Anything on the aforementioned meeting? Thanks.

From: Sughrue, Jim

Sorry for the delay. Between spending some time away for various reasons and a pretty persistent workload, I let this get confused with another request that was being handled. I’ll check.
