University of Cincinnati 2021 Student Info

Our office is in receipt of your request of July 8 for the following:

* A file containing the university-affiliated email addresses, first and last names of all enrolled University of Cincinnati students as of the Spring 2021 semester.

The University considers its (or any portion of its) student directory as valuable for competitive reasons. We have not publicly released permanent contact lists containing student information. We no longer publish a paper directory, nor does our online directory permit batch downloads. Our student contact lists serve a valuable business need for us, in publicizing university ceremonies and activities. We will continue to control our mailing list containing student contact information in a manner that preserves its value.

Because of the value attached to our contact list as a non-public list and of the efforts we undertake to protect it, we appropriately regard it as a trade secret. For this reason, it is exempt from disclosure under the Ohio Public Records Act. (See O.R.C. §149.43(A)(1)(v) see also O.R.C. §1333.61 et seq., and see for example, State ex rel. Besser v. Ohio State Univ., 87 Ohio St. 3d 535, 721 N.E.2d 1044, (2000).)

The University's response fulfills your request. This matter is now closed.
