"Good afternoon,

There have not been any MRSA outbreaks reported at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.

MRSA is not a reportable condition in NC, but MRSA bloodstream infections are reported through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Here is the data NC DHHS has about hospital-acquired MRSA bloodstream infections at this facility:

Year

# infections

2019

2

2020

0

2021

2

2022

4

2023

0

Note that the above count only includes bloodstream infections. Non-bloodstream MRSA infections are not reportable to the state or NHSN, so DHHS staff do not have any data available for those.

While MRSA infections in general are not reportable in NC, MRSA bloodstream infections (BSI) are reported by all acute care hospitals through NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network, a federal reporting system). The SHARPPS Program produces an annual healthcare associated infections report that includes number of MRSA BSIs by hospital (page 48). https://epi.dph.ncdhhs.gov/cd/hai/figures/2022/2022_Annual_Report.pdf

NC DHHS now considers this request closed.
