Pursuant to the New York Freedom of Information Law, I hereby request the following records:
A spreadsheet with all information reported on police use of force to date pursuant to Executive Law §837, including at minimum data on all use of force incidents that occurred from 2019 to December 31, 2021.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

This is in response to your Freedom of Information Law (“FOIL”) request to the Division of Criminal Justice Services (“Division”) for “information reported on police use of force to date pursuant to Executive Law §837, including at minimum data on all use of force incidents that occurred from 2019 to December 31, 2021.”
Please be advised that records that respond to your request may be found on the Division website. Case level Use of Force incidents 7/11/19 (effective date) through 10/31/20 are currently posted at https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/crimnet/ojsa/use-of-force-incidents-by-agency-jul2019-oct-2020.xlsx. If you navigate to the main Stats page at https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/crimnet/ojsa/stats.htm and then click on Use of Force, you can also get a data notes document and a summary report.
The Division is currently working on compiling the data covering 11/1/20 – 12/31/21. These data will also be added to the public website once complete.
