Pursuant to RCW Ch. 42.56 (Public Records Act), I hereby request the following records:
The contents of every DNS zone served, owned, or operated by the City of Seattle, including, but not limited to SEATTLE.GOV and CI.SEATTLE.WA.US and subdomains thereof. If the data already exists in or can easily be exported to BIND/RFC1035 format, that would be preferred.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

This is a complex request and I am in the process of assessing records that may be responsive. It is possible that records included in this response will need redaction. I am looking into this as well. I will do my best to accommodate your request of providing this information electronically. This will depend on the final file size. I'd like to point out that DNS records are generally considered public information. If the city believes the release of these records would "increase risk to the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of agency security, information technology infrastructure, or assets" (RCW 42.56.420(4)), then it is likely running an insecure system. Attackers have many ways of enumerating DNS records.
My apologies if I'm rehashing an argument that's already been made in the context of this request. Thank you for the update, and I look forward to the result of your assessment!

Hi,
I received the DVD in the mail today -- thank you for sending it so quickly! However, it appears to be uninitialized -- I've tried two different DVD drives and both of them detect the disc as empty, as if nothing had ever been written to it.
Would it be possible to retry with another disc? Alternatively, would you be open to transferring these records over the Internet? I would be happy to set up a SFTP server or similar for you to transfer them to.
