Thank you for your response. I understand that upon an initial search the document may not have been easily accessible. Could you clarify if there were no records at all of the affidavit being filed, or you were not able to locate the affidavit.

The reason I ask, is the document in question was submitted as evidence in multiple high profile federal court cases as well as widely distributed to media outlets, multiple legal, and law enforcement professionals. To give some context, the criminal case which the document is associated was one of the most prominent criminal cases in decade of the 1980's in Montana.

Attached are a sample of references to the affidavit in the transcripts of two federal court cases and press clippings if that helps to give context to refine the search.

I cannot confirm whether or not the affidavit was filed. We have no records concerning Mr. Craig Young from that time period. It appears it was submitted as evidence by the victim’s mother. You may also note the contradiction of Missoula County police and Missoula City police in your referenced documents. There is a Missoula County Sheriff’s Department that may have the information you are requesting. Thank you.
