Pursuant to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
Any and all written or electronic correspondence, including email attachments, sent or received by former drinking water division director Liane Shekter Smith that contain one or more of the following words or phrases: "Nestle Waters North America", "Nestle Waters" and/or "Nestle". This request pertains to communications sent or received between July 1, 2016 and September 31, 2017.
I am a reporter for The Nation and The Guardian, and the requested documents will be made available to the general public. This request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

This notice responds to your request for information received by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) on March 21, 2018 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), MCL 15.231 et seq. You requested information described as: Any and all written or electronic correspondence... sent or received by former drinking water division director Liane Shekter Smith... "Nestle Waters North America", "Nestle Waters" and/or "Nestle" ...July 1, 2016 and September 31, 2017.
To determine the extent of responsive information, inquiry must be made of the appropriate division(s) of the DEQ. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the time for response, as permitted by section 5(2)(d) of the FOIA, MCL 15.235(2)(d), through 4/11/2018.
