To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, ยง10, I hereby request the following records:

All available 2014 Lottery sales data for locations within the following zip codes:

01453
02301
01020
02127
01952
01826
02148
01960
01844
02169

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Beryl C.D. Lipton

Hello Mr. Teja,

Thank you very much for your response. Would it be possible to get the sales data for the locations in each of the highlighted zip codes? Also, would you mind providing clarification on which of these categories of lottery product are specifically Massachusetts lotteries, as opposed to multi-state games?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Have a lovely weekend,
Beryl

Hi Beryl. Our agent location records are grouped by city/town, not by zip code. We can provide records that show sales data for all agent locations in a given city/town. In a city/town with multiple zip codes, the agent locations are not further segmented by zip code in our records.

As for which games are multi-state, those are Lucky for Life, Mega Millions and Powerball.

Hi Christian,

Thank you! If I could receive the data by town that would be terrific. I'm wondering: to pull the sales data by agent location by town, will that require additional work that wouldn't be involved if one were to download the whole data set for all of the towns? If it will, I would be interested in the whole data set, and I could send you a cd, if that would make transmission easier. I really appreciate all of your help on all of these requests.

Have a lovely day,
Beryl

Hello!

Thank you very much for your letter. I'm wondering: is there another way to obtain the data I am requesting that would not require very much search and segregation time? For example, would it be possible to export the whole data spreadsheet (if that is the form in which the information is kept), in order to save your office the time necessary to pull specific bits of that information?

Thank you!
Beryl

We have presented the most time-efficient manner of doing this. The data is stored in such a way that the list of all agents in each city/town has to be extracted separately. Additionally, the data includes non-public information that needs to be manually redacted.
