The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has received your request for public records and is processing your request. I have requested the records and the Special Victims Unit is currently working to compile the requested records/information. Please note that the timeframe requested, seventeen (17) years, is a sizeable timeframe so it will take time for our personnel to compile all those stats. I am not sure how it is maintained so I am not sure how long it will take, but I can say they are working on it.

Please be advised that while the request was for records pertaining to "...sexual assault evidence collection (SAEC) kits (also known as "rape kits") and processing...", the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office categorizes such objects as "sex kits". *Please note that this record contains information compiled in August 2016 during an audit for the DANY Grant Memorandum of Understanding by and between the MCSO and the Maricopa County Attorney's Office (MCAO). This MOU is being provided in response to this request as well.

**Please note that this record is a log of all sex kits placed into the MCSO Office Inventory Manager (OIM) system. Be advised that the query to generate this report does not allow a timeframe to be input; therefore, the record is indicative of all sex kits logged into the OIM system. Also, the OIM system did not begin until 2009; however, older cases are gradually getting inputted into the system. Therefore, this log may not be all inclusive of the sex kits currently in Property and Evidence. Furthermore, please be advised that the "sex kits" are used to obtain forensic evidence in any case, not just sexual assault cases. Therefore, the rape kits listed in this record may not all be related to sexual assault cases.

The fee breakdown for completed requests are as follows:

Documents: $5.00 for first 10 pages & $.50 for each additional page

CD's: $15.00 each

*Please Note: Documents are available for 30 business days from the date of this notice to be picked up and/or reviewed. After 30 business days has elapsed, the request will be closed and the documents destroyed. In order to obtain requested documents after the 30 business days, a new public records request will have to be resubmitted and reprocessed. All requests are handled in the order they are received.
