My name is Rick Tast, I am an Asst. City Attorney with the City of Lincoln
tasked with Public Records Request (PRR). In Nebraska, the first four
hours of a PRR are provided at no cost. After that, charges are assessed.
Your request as written is very broad, and it s difficult to even come to
an estimate of the cost. However it will far surpass four hours. Would
you kindly contact me so we can discuss your request, and what you are
seeking to obtain. In the alternative, I can supply an estimate to your
request as currently written.

I Look forward to speaking with you.

Sincerely,

Rick

Hello Rick,

Yes, all the records you are able to provide within the 4 hours, and a price estimate for the rest, would be much appreciated. This data is being collected for ongoing work at the Urban Indian Health Institute, where we are studying gender violence in urban Native communities. This data will be of great benefit to researchers, policymakers, and law enforcement seeking to implement best practices to increase safety for Native women and girls. Considering Nebraska has one of the highest rates of missing Native women and girls in the country, it's imperative that we access these records.

Thank you,
Annita

Hi Rick,

I tried calling in a few times but there is no option to leave a voicemail and for some reason every time I call, the office has closed early? Please give me a call back at (707) 298-3060. In terms of our priorities, the more recent data is definitely first priority, but we are prepared to cover costs of additional time for the information we're looking for.

Thank you,
Annita

From: Lincoln Police Department

Annita,

It was a pleasure speaking with you on the phone. AS discussed, I am requesting the Lincoln Police Department to search for
information on any open cases involving:

-Native American Females who are reported missing
-Native American Females who have died as a result of suspicious reasons (i.e. homicide or foul play suspected)
-From 1900 - present.

As discussed, for Public Records Request we typically only release public dispatch and incident report, as our law enforcement reports are typically subject to being withheld from PRR per Neb. Rev. Stat. and I understand this is acceptable to you.

In the event this search would take more than four hours, we will provide as much info as possible starting with the current date and working back as far in time as four hours of searching would provide. After that we will provide you an estimate for any remaining time we believe it would take to search.

Additionally you would like the search limited to easily searchable material initially which I understand to be records contained in our current computer database.

Please let me know if I have correctly summarized our conversation and the parameters of your search request.

Sincerely,

Rick
