Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act., I hereby request the following records:
1. the total number of use of force incidents, separated by type of force and year used from 2016-2020 (for example, information that specifies the number of taser incidents in 2020, baton incidents in 2020, etc.). Please include as part of this a breakdown of how many use of force incidents in each year were related to law enforcement operations and how many were related to correctional/custodial operations.
2. the total number of civilian complaints alleging any form of law enforcement misconduct that were reported and the total number sustained from 2016-2020, separated by year.
3. the total number of civilian complaints alleging law enforcement use of excessive force that were reported and the total number sustained from 2016-2020, separated by year.
4. the total number of civilian complaints alleging biased policing or racial profiling that were reported and the total number sustained from 2016-2020, separated by year.
5. the total number of civilian complaints alleging criminal conduct that were reported and the total number sustained from 2016-2020, separated by year.
6. the total number of officer involved shootings from 2016-2020, both fatal and non-fatal, separated by year.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Good morning,
I am writing with an update on your FOIA request "Sheriff data request (2016 - 20)(Lake County Sheriff)." We plan to provide you all of the information that you have requested, but in order
for us to do that we will require additional time. We are requesting an additional agreed extension of 21 business days, but hope to respond before the 21 business days.
Our Office of Professional Standards has been working diligently to compile the requested data in your FOIA request. In 2021 our Office of Professional Standards switched to a new system that made it easier to gather data for 2021. We previously worked on a FOIA request, in which you requested similar data for the year of 2021. We were able to provide a quicker response for that request because of the new system.
Unfortunately, for the years of 2016 - 2020 there were multiple ways this information was gathered and recorded. It is a much more difficult and time consuming process for our qualified personnel to compile the requested data for years previous to 2021.

Needed an additional time, this takes us to November 11th. Our Office of Professional Standards is diligently working to extract that information to provide to you.
It was much easier to respond to your last request for the same data from last year because we had implemented a new system to track this type of data.
