Because aggregated statistics on these crimes are reported annually to the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting program by your agency, I believe you retain these records.
This request is made as part of the Documenting Hate Project, a collaboration involving dozens of news organizations including BuzzFeed News, led by ProPublica. Coverage from the project is compiled at https://projects.propublica.org/graphics/hatecrimes#hatecrime-coverage.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

In light of the upcoming holiday, we must report that we are not quite as far along as we had hoped to be. Rest assured that the information you have requested for the entire year of 2016 is diligently being researched and the incident reports pulled. We likewise must redact those reports that are public record, to remove the names and personal identifiers of victims, witnesses, and complainants, as well (pursuant to City of Baton Rouge v. Capital City Press).

We continue to go through the incident reports. Please note that there were 170 total calls for service and we have located 120 reports, which then require us to (1) discern whether criminal charges remain pending (in which case the incident report is not a public record); and (2) redact exempted personal identifiers as allowed under the Louisiana Public Records Act for those incident reports that either did not result in an arrest, or are no longer pending criminal.

We will begin providing you with the documentation on a rolling basis, first by providing the incident reports with no arrest. The remaining reports need to be confirmed with City Court or our Parish District Court to determine the status of the criminal charges. This process takes time, as we often have to leave a message with court personnel who has to look up the matters manually.

This request is made as part of the Documenting Hate Project, a collaboration involving dozens of news organizations including BuzzFeed News, led by ProPublica. Coverage from the project is compiled at https://projects.propublica.org/graphics/hatecrimes#hatecrime-coverage.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

Below please find a dropbox link containing Incident Reports for all crimes of aggravated assault recorded in 2016. Please note that the names of the witnesses and complainant, as well as their personal identifiers and information (DOB, address, phone number, etc) have been redacted as allowed pursuant to City of Baton Rouge v. Capital City Press, L.L.C., 2007-1088 (La. App. 1 Cir. 2/13/09), 7 So.3d 21.

Additionally, there were some Incident Reports which are currently not a public record due to pending criminal charges. See La. R.S. 44:3(A)(1). Therefore, only the Initial Report is being released as per La. R.S. 44:3.

Finally, please note, any reports involving juvenile matters cannot be released without a judge-signed Court Order as per La. Ch.C.Art. 412.

On Dec. 5, 2018:
We continue to go through the incident reports. Please note that there were 170 total calls for service and we have located 120 reports, which then require us to (1) discern whether criminal charges remain pending (in which case the incident report is not a public record); and (2) redact exempted personal identifiers as allowed under the Louisiana Public Records Act for those incident reports that either did not result in an arrest, or are no longer pending criminal.
We will begin providing you with the documentation on a rolling basis, first by providing the incident reports with no arrest. The remaining reports need to be confirmed with City Court or our Parish District Court to determine the status of the criminal charges. This process takes time, as we often have to leave a message with court personnel who has to look up the matters manually.

Because aggregated statistics on these crimes are reported annually to the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting program by your agency, I believe you retain these records.
This request is made as part of the Documenting Hate Project, a collaboration involving dozens of news organizations including BuzzFeed News, led by ProPublica. Coverage from the project is compiled at https://projects.propublica.org/graphics/hatecrimes#hatecrime-coverage.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
