Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 to 11), I hereby request the following records:

Apple Inc.’s Manufacturer Registration form submitted for compliance in the Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act for 2013, 2014, and 2015, and 2016. Apple Inc.’s Manufacturer Total Weight Collected form for 2013, 2014, 2015. Apple’s Covered Electronic Products Manufacturer’s Sales report and Covered Electronic Products Manufacturer’s Recycler Information forms for 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 (if available). Any documents that list the specific e-waste recycling centers used by Apple to fulfill its manufacturer e-cycling obligations as well as the quantity and type of electronics that were recycled on Apple’s behalf.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes. They will be used in the course of reporting for Motherboard, VICE's science and tech site (www.motherboard.vice.com).

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request, and I ask that this be processed under the "media" fee category. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Requested Information

Documentation for Apple Inc regarding the Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act

Please be advised that the Illinois EPA is unable to respond to your request within the five (5) working days and is extending the response time by an additional five (5) business days pursuant to the Illinois FOIA at 5/140 Section 3(e). The reason for the delay is as follows:

(iv) the requested records have not been located in the course of routine search and additional efforts are being made to locate them;

(v) the requested records require examination and evaluation by personnel having the necessary competence and discretion to determine if they are exempt from disclosure under Section 7 of this Act or should be revealed only with appropriate deletions;

(vi) the request for records cannot be complied with by the public body within the time limits prescribed by paragraph (c) of this Section without unduly burdening or interfering with the operations of the public body;

(vii) there is a need for consultation, which shall be conducted with all practicable speed, with another public body or among two or more components of a public body having a substantial interest in the determination or in the subject matter of the request.
