Subject: City of Durham launches new public records request platform, Feb. 14

Good Morning,

Over the past few years, requests for City of Durham public records have increased substantially. To help better manage and track these requests, the City's Communications Department is introducing a new public records management platform, called NextRequest.

Beginning Monday, February 14, to make a public records request using NextRequest, please go this link on the Communications Department webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3872/Request-Public-Records>. On this page, you'll find directions on how to submit a request.

There are currently four options specifically created for your use to request records only:

* News Media Request: 911 Emergency Communications
* News Media Requests: Fire Department
* News Media Requests: General (All other News Media requests)
* News Media Requests: Police Department

Please do not use NextRequest to request interviews or information. You may continue to contact the departments listed below, which have public information units, or the Communications Department<mailto:CommsMedia@durhamnc.gov> for those types of inquiries.

* Fire
* Parks and Recreation
* Police
* Water Management

NextRequest also offers a great feature where, as new requests are filled, you'll be able to search records that have been released to the public by clicking on the "search" link. Because we're just starting to use the platform, previously fulfilled requests are not available on the platform.

Please share this email with anyone who submits public records requests on behalf of your organization.

If you have questions about how to use NextRequest, please contact the Communications Department at (919) 560-4123, x11227, or by email<mailto:Sandra.Keener@durhamnc.gov>.

Best wishes,
