Dear Mr. Cassano:

I have been assigned to assist with your data request, below, which was submitted to the Duluth Police Department.

With regard to your question on fees, please be advised that the City of Duluth charges 25 cents a page for the first 100 pages of black and white documents. For copies of other data (e.g. more than 100 paper copies, data stored electronically, etc.) the City may charge the actual cost for an employee to search for and retrieve the data, and to make paper copies or to print copies of electronically stored data. The City charges $35.00 per hour after the first 15 minutes.

We are uncertain about a couple of issues and are requesting clarification of your request. First, you have not indicated a time period for the data that you seek. In other words, do you seek data collected within the current month, current year, or something else? Second, we seek clarification regarding your request for communications. Are you referring to communications received by the City from the identified entity-Taser International? Please provide further explanation.

The City is entitled to a reasonable amount of time in which to respond to your request. Not surprisingly, the amount of time required will depend, in part, upon the scope and breadth of your request. The longer the time period and the more data you seek, the longer it will take to search for and retrieve the data.

Please direct your clarifications, in writing, to my attention.

Thank you.
