Pursuant to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
Compensation data for all employees of the Detroit Police Department for the most recent year in which complete data are available (preferably 2020).
Specifically, I request that these data include, for each employee: Name, Job Title, Earnings (required), and age, gender, ethnicity, and hire date (if available).
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Would it be possible to get a labor cost estimate for providing the same spreadsheet with the names of full uniform officers, as described in the letter? With ~2400 officers, Detroit probably doesn't have more than a few dozen undercover and it would be helpful to have names for the rest.

The Police Department Personnel Division indicated that they are not able to determine which officers are plain cloths/undercover. I was informed that some of the officers work undercover/plain clothes for certain assignments and that holds true for those at precincts as well.
