Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

1. The total number of police use of force incidents, broken down by type of force used, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
2. The total number of people that police used force against, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
3. The total number of police use of force complaints reported between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
4. The total number of police use of force complaints sustained between 2013-2017 (separated by year).

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Hi, thanks for this response. Regarding the use of force by force type data, can you please send me just the following (more limited) information on this:
-The total number of uses of tasers and other electronic control weapons in 2016 and 2017
-The total number of uses of batons and other impact weapons (including projectiles) in 2016 and 2017
-The total number of uses of OC Spray and other chemical weapons in 2016 and 2017
-The total number of uses of a carotid restraint in 2016 and 2017

We will follow up with the police department to determine if it is possible to breakdown the use of force by these categories.

Also, we received 3 requests for the same information, but all with different email addresses but all 3 were from Muck Rock. Please confirm whether the City needs to send to the other 2 email addresses, or if this is sufficient.

The Police Department does not track the use of batons and other impact weapons separately from Use of Force tracking.
-The total number of uses of OC Spray and other chemical weapons in 2016 and 2017
The Police Department does not track the use of OC spray or other chemical weapons separately from Use of Force tracking
-The total number of uses of a carotid restraint in 2016 and 2017
The Police Department does not track the uses of a carotid restraint separately from Use of Force tracking.
