Pursuant to the South Carolina Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

Any and all records from the past two years (October 2021-October 2023) regarding your nuisance property ordinance that will be referred to as "ordinance" in this request but could be known (but not limited to) as "Nuisances" as described in Article II Sec. 8-31 through 8-41 in Columbia's city code.

Please provide any and all written records (including but not limited to hard-copy documents, memos, emails, word processor documents, PDF documents, PowerPoint files, images files, video files etc.) regarding the Ordinance including but not limited to:

• evictions filed by property owners and number of tenants evicted as a result of the ordinance

• Notice to Vacate's filed by property owners as a result of nuisance abatement

• suspensions or revocation of a residential rental license, against property owners who fail to comply with the requirements of the ordinance

• police calls, reports, citations, or arrests, collected by the municipality police department for the purpose of enforcing the ordinance

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 15 business days, as the statute requires.

Thank you for contacting the City of Columbia Attorney’s Office. Your request for information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code § 30-4-10 et. seq., has been received and forwarded to the appropriate department for review. Please be advised that § 30-4-30(b) of the South Carolina Code authorizes a public body to “establish and collect fees” for providing information pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request. Prior to providing pertinent documentation, we will notify you of any fees associated with your request.

Once all documentation has been compiled and reviewed, non-exempt documents will be forwarded to you within 30 days, unless otherwise stated.

Good Morning,

Your request for information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code 30-4-10 Ct. seq., concerning the above-referenced matter was received in the Office of the City Attorney and forwarded to the City of Columbia Code Enforcement Division for response.

Per the Code Enforcement Division, they have not suspended or revoked any rental permits during the period of October 2021-October 2023.

Effective May 19, 2017, it is a crime to knowingly obtain or use information obtained from a public body for commercial solicitation, S.C. Code § 30-2-50 et. seq.
